5 Themes of Geography

The relative location of the Bahamas is in the Atlantic Ocean southwest of Florida and North of Cuba. The absolute location of the Bahamas is 25˚ North and 77˚ West. This means that Bahamas is closer to the equator. That also means that it will be warmer than Iowa. Which is awesome because we have cold winters, so it is good to get away from that.

The place of the Bahamas consists of multiple islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The islands are generally pretty flat. The highest altitude is Mt. Alvernia which is 63 meters above sea level. It has a sub-tropical to tropical climate and experiences hurricanes due to its location. It is vulnerable to hurricanes because it is in the middle of the ocean, therefore it is surrounded by water.

Due to the Bahamas tropical climate and being a set of islands, the environment contributes to the country's largest tourist economy. This makes the human-environment interactions great. The tourism industry employs directly or indirectly about 50 percent of the Bahamian workforce and accounts for approximately half of the country's Gross Domestic Product.

For the movement in the Bahamas, since it is made up of islands the Atlantic Ocean is depended on for import and export transportation. It is also depended on for air travel. A lot of cruises are taken to the Bahamas since it is surrounded by water.

For the regions of the Bahamas, it is part of the Caribbean community, and it is under sovereign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Day 9: We're leaving

Well, we're going back home now. Our flight is in Nassau, which is where we started. I'm definitely going to miss it here. It was a great experience, and someday I hope to come back. There was so much to see that I didn't get to. I'm excited to see my friends and family and tell them all about my great trip. I took a lot of pictures to show them. It's always hard to leave, but it is always good to be home.

Day 8: Sandy Toes Beach

Today we will be going to Sandy Toes Beach. This will cost us nothing. We would just like a day to sit and relax on the beach and enjoy the beautiful view and nice, warm weather before we go back to the cold winter in Iowa. For our last night, we are staying at Rio Palace on Paradise Island. This will cost us $369 for the night.

Day 7: Ocean Club Golf Course

Well, we've been here for a week now, and today we decided we want to try out golfing. I've never actually golfed before, so this should be a great experience. We are going to have a golf trainer with us today to help teach us the ropes of the course. That should make it a little bit easier. This is a golf course with breath taking views, white sand beaches, and palm trees. We are staying at the One&Only Ocean Club which inclues the golf package for $540 a night.

Day 6: Castaway Cay

Today we will be visiting Castaway Cay. Here we will be going swimming and biking. Floats, jet-skis, paddle boats, and other water toys can be rented at the Family Beach. This is mostly a day for relaxing. This will cost about $65 dollars per person, and we will be staying another night at Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort for another $149.

Day 5: Paradise Island Outdoor Aquarium

Today we are excited to see the Outdoor Aquarium on Paradise Island. At this aquarium, we will see 11 exhibit lagoons with 200 species of different marine animals. The Acrylic tunnels that undermine the sea creatures' habitat will enable us to see piranhas, lobsters, jellyfish, green eels, sharks, and giant groupers. This aquarium will cost about $110 a person. We will be staying the night at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort for $149 per person for tonight.

Day 4: Pirates of Nassau

Today we will be heading to the Pirates of Nassau museum. This museum consists of the life of pirates in this venue located at the heart of downtown Nassau. Here, we will be taken into an educational program that educates people about the life of pirates through interactive programs. This is a great way to get to know Bahamas' culture more. This museum will cost us $12 per person. We will be staying the night at British Colonial Hilton in Nassau. This will cost us $219 for tonight.
